If you want to work in construction as an engineer, you must be a Dubai Municipality-certified engineer. To achieve this certification, you need to pass the relevant exam. This exam is required for both civil and electrical engineers.
The exam typically consists of multiple-choice questions that assess your technical knowledge, understanding of safety regulations, and proficiency in industry standards. Successfully passing this exam ensures you meet the standards and qualifications necessary to practice as an engineer in Dubai’s construction sector.
For civil engineers, the Dubai municipality exam is categorized into 4 stages according to your experience
G+1:
- Academic qualification: Have a bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering
- Experience: Have at least three years of experience if you have a degree, or five years of experience if you have a diploma

G+4:

- A minimum of five years of experience is required

G+12:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- A minimum of 7 years of experience is required
Unlimited:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- A minimum of 10 years of experience is required
Your required experience can be from any country. If your experience is from a country other than the UAE, it must be attested by the embassy, following the same procedure as for degree attestation.
For example, if you have 2 years of experience in India and 3 years of experience in Dubai, you are eligible for the G+4 category.

To be eligible for the Dubai Municipality exam, you must obtain a membership of the Society of Engineers – UAE. This membership requires submitting verified documents and paying a membership fee. Being a member of the Society of Engineers confirms that you meet the professional standards necessary to practice engineering in the UAE and qualifies you to sit for the Dubai Municipality exam.
To get started, you need to first create an account in the Dubai Engineering Qualification System and upload the required documents. The system will then display all the Dubai Municipality exams for which you are eligible.

How to Apply for the Dubai Municipality Exam?
To appear in the Dubai Municipality exam, candidates must apply online through the Dubai Engineering qualification system. Here is the step-by-step guide to apply
1. Sign up
First, candidates need to create an account to access the dashboard. If you have an account registered with UAE Pass, you can create one using UAE Pass.
The system will fill in all your data via the link with the UAE Pass system and create an account for you in the Dubai Engineering Qualification System.
Click the “Sign In with UAE Pass” option and you will be redirected to login with UAE Pass page. Where you need to provide your Email, Mobile Number, or the Emirati ID used with the UAE Pass and click the Sign In button.
To sign in without a UAE pass, click the “New Registration” option. You will be redirected to a page where you need to verify your contact number and provide the required details: email, name, birthdate, sex, and nationality.
For Emeriti Nationality: You need to provide ID Details.
For Non-Emeriti Nationality: If you have residency, You need to provide the following details
- Emirates ID no
- Passport Number
- Residency File Number
If you are not a resident, you need to enter Only your Passport number

2. Check Eligibility and Request for Exam
After successful registration, the system will display the “Home” page of your profile. On the Home page, click on the “Profile” section at the top of the screen. Here, you need to add your education and experience records.
Next, click on the “My Accreditations” section at the top of the screen. Here, you will find all the exams for which you are eligible. Select the accreditation you wish to obtain and click “Next” to confirm.
3. Make Payment
In the next step, search for available exam slots and proceed with payment. The exam fee is 400 AED, which you can pay online or in cash. If paying in cash, you will receive a voucher with an invoice number that you need to print and use for payment.
After the payment has been processed successfully, you can select your exam slot on the “Select Exam Date” page. Once you confirm the date and time, a message confirming your successful exam booking will be displayed.
Under booked exam detail you can find the “Preparation” tab where you can take “Trial Exam” and even download study material for exam preparation.
Note: After booking the exam you can reschedule the exam only if the remaining time is at least one day.
5. On Exam Day
Arrive at the exam location on time with the following documents:
- Emirates ID or your passport
- Graduation Certificates
- Experience Certificates
Go to the receptionist to confirm your identity. After your information is verified, the system will automatically add your name to the Exam Applicants List. Please wait in the waiting room until your name appears on the screen.
When it’s your turn, you will need to provide your graduation and experience certificates to the employee for verification. After the documents are verified, the employee will give you a username and password generated by the system for you to start the exam.
On the assigned system, you will need to enter your login ID and password to access the test. Once you begin the test, the timer will start running in the upper-right corner of the screen.
The next time you log into the Dubai Engineering Qualification Portal, you will find your exam results under the “My Exam” section. If you have successfully cleared the exam, you will be able to view your certificate in the “My Accreditations” tab.
