TDVL Course

Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence is for chauffeured services in a taxi and in private hire car.  This licence is only for Singapore citizens.

The course covers the rules and regulations, service quality as well as general safety and route planning which has been designed to facilitate both self-study (9 hours) and classroom coaching (16 hours) within a structured learning framework.

Applicant need to complete the course and pass the competency test also to get the TDVL.

Test Pattern: The complete test is divided into 3 papers, consists of 140 MCQs with a time limit of 3 hours.

  1. Paper 1: Service Quality, Health & Safety – 50 Multiple Choice Questions
    (Duration: 60mins / Passing marks: 40 correct answers)
  2. Paper 2: Rules and Regulations – 50 Multiple Choice Questions
    (Duration: 60mins / Passing marks: 43 correct answers)
  3. Paper 3: Route Planning – 40 Multiple Choice Questions
    (Duration: 60mins / Passing marks: 33 correct answers)

 

PDVL Course

Private hire car Driver’s Vocational Licence is only for chauffeured services in a private hire car.

The course covers the rules and regulations, service quality as well as general safety which has been designed to facilitate both self-study (2 hours) and classroom coaching (8 hours) within a structured learning framework.

Applicant need to complete the course and pass the competency test also to get the PDVL.

Test Pattern: For PDVl There are two test papers, consist of 100 MCQs with a time limit of 2 hours.

  1. Paper 1: Service Quality, Health & Safety – 50 Multiple Choice Questions
    (Duration: 60mins / Passing marks: 40 correct answers)
  2. Paper 2: Rules and Regulations – 50 Multiple Choice Questions
    (Duration: 60mins / Passing marks: 43 correct answers)

Eligibility:

TDVL:

  • Require Singapore citizenship
  • Minimum age should be 30 years
  • Capable to speak and read simple English
  • Hold a valid Class 3/3A Singapore driving licence for a continuous period of at least one year at the time of application
  • Need to pass the LTA’s required medical examination and background checks.

PDVL:

  • Be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
  • Capable  to speak and read simple English. For this anyone of the following document proof required.
    • GCE ‘O’ Level or ‘N’ Level pass in English.
    • Level 3 pass in English under the Workplace Literacy (WPL) programme .
  • Hold a valid Class 3/3A Singapore driving licence for a continuous period of at least two years at the point of application;
  • If you are self-employed, you will need to have up-to-date Medisave contributions.
  • Pass LTA’s required medical examination and background checks.

For SPR only: Be an employee with a Chauffeured Services Company and produce a copy of the Employment Letter (stating that “you are employed as a Chauffeured Services Driver”) and ACRA letter of the Chauffeured Services Company at the point of application.

Process for applying TDVL/PDVL

Eligible candidate need to follow the following step for getting TDVL/PDVL:

1. Firstly you need to submit TDVL/ PDVL application online to LTA. For this you have to visit to https://licence1.business.gov.sg and login with your SingPass.

2. After login you are required to upload the following documents and make nonrefundable payment of $40 to LTA.

Documents require to upload:

  • A recent passport-photograph
  • NRIC (Front and Back view)
  • Singapore Class 3/3A/3C/3CA Driving Licence (Front and Back View)
  • For SPR only: A copy of your Employment Letter (stating that “you are employed as a Chauffeured Services Driver”) and ACRA letter of the Chauffeured Services Company *Please note that CPF Contribution Statement is no longer required for application from 1 July 2017

3. Within 10-15 days you will receive the approval letter from LTA. Applicants are required to register for the training course within 4 months and complete the course and pass the competency test within 12 months from the date of your approval letter

4. Once you received your LTA approval letter you have to apply to TDVL/ PDVL Course. For this you have to submit Course registration form to CDG/ STA. You can download the course registration form from the CDG website (http://www.cdgtaxi.com.sg/) or STA website (http://www.taxi.org.sg/).

5. Mail Course registration form with supporting documents and cheque payment to CDG/ STA to register for the course. You can also register for TDVL/ PDVL course offline by visiting CDG/ STA office and submit the necessary documents.

Documents required for registering training course are as follows:

  1. LTA approved letter.
  2. Driving Licence
  3. LTA’s medical examination form duly completed and certified by a registered medical practitioner.
  4. The original or certified true copy of your chest X-ray examination result card signed by a radiologist.
  5. Original and copy of your GCE “O” or “N” Level certificate, with a pass (at least a D7 grade) in English OR the results for the WPL-CAT (at least a Level 3 pass in the Listening, Reading and Speaking modules).
